The Dixie Wing Welcomes You
The Commemorative Air Force is a patriotic organization dedicated to the preservation of the world's greatest World War II combat aircraft (flown from 1939 to 1945). Our organization is the 16th largest Air Force and owns more World War II aircraft than any other organization or individual. The CAF is a 501c(3) corporation and all donations are tax deductible.
The Dixie Wing was approved as the 83rd CAF unit on February 28, 1987, and has since displayed its collection of vintage World War II aircraft in numerous air shows throughout the Southeast. Membership in the wing has grown steadily to its present level of over 250 Colonels, with maintenance and restoration activities being carried out in the Atlanta area. The Dixie Wing is a non-profit, tax-exempt "flying museum" that depends on contributions of time and funds to carry out its mission.
The members of the Dixie Wing come from all walks of life and range in age from 19 to 80. We have aircraft mechanics, students, retired folks, housewives, airline pilots, salesmen, construction workers and many more who are all interested in World War II aircraft. Come to a meeting, hear about our activities and meet some of our members. We also have a cadet program for young persons from age 13 to 18. These young folks will learn about our World War II heritage, take field trips, learn about aircraft maintenance, help maintain our aircraft under the supervision of licensed Aircraft Maintenance Technicians, learn leadership and teamwork, and actually get to fly in our aircraft.
There's no pressure for you to join. To learn about the Dixie Wing and to have your initial questions answered, contact Col Jim Friday, Wing Leader, at 678-365-1110 or email dixiewingleader@bellsouth.net. Include your address and phone number and we will contact you.
